School News - 2024/25
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to St Mary's, everyone! It's been wonderful to see so many smiling faces again this week – we've truly missed you. A special warm welcome to our new children and families joining our lovely community. We hope you'll feel right at home here.
I'm thrilled to be starting my new role as Head Teacher and feel incredibly privileged to lead this wonderful place. We're also delighted to welcome Joanna Woolley, our new Deputy, to our leadership team.
We've got some exciting events coming up that I'd love to share with you. On Friday, 27th September, we're hosting a coffee morning supporting MacMillan Cancer Support. Mrs Woolley and myself will be there to meet you all. If you can bring along some tasty treats – cakes, biscuits, or anything else – we'd be so grateful. It's a fantastic opportunity to come together and support a great cause. We'll also have a book fair running that week, so you can browse some brilliant books while you're here. We're hoping to see as many of you as possible!
I'm excited to announce that we're launching a school Facebook page! Initially, we won't post any images of children, but we'll share all the wonderful things happening in school. We'll send out new permission forms soon, asking for your consent to include your child's image on the page. Rest assured, only children with explicit permission will appear. This will provide a quick and easy way to communicate with you all. Here is the link to our page
It's going to be a fantastic year, and I can't wait to see what we'll achieve together!

Dear Parents and Carers, 6th September 2023
I am delighted to be able to write my first letter as the new Acting Executive Headteacher of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have been asked by the Local Authority and the Diocese to support the school whilst we search for a permanent Headteacher. I would like to reassure parents that as a school will we continue to build upon the great things about our school and the successes the school has already achieved.
I have been the Headteacher of Wick CE Primary School for 12 years and became Executive Headteacher 5 years ago when I was also appointed Headteacher of Abbotswood Primary School. Being a father of 3 children and a member of the local community, I am very much aware of the responsibility that my staff and I have in ensuring that the highest standard of teaching and learning is achieved. We have a hugely committed team and wonderful children, which of course, is a great place for any new head to start! I am also pleased to announce that Mrs Dunt will be the Deputy Head and will be helping me lead the school and will be fully out of the classroom to do this. We also together with the unwavering support of the school team we are extremely excited about the journey ahead.
The needs of the children are always paramount in the life and decision making within a school. I strongly believe in providing the children with exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences, which build their enthusiasm for learning and help them to grow and develop positively in a variety of ways. I think it is crucial to involve the children and their families as partners in their education. I am also keen on building a whole school community which thrives on mutual respect and values positive relationships. I know how vital working in partnership with parents really is in order for children to find school a positive and rewarding experience. As key educators in your children’s lives, I feel that it is important that you have a voice and that as a school we are approachable and allocate time to listen to your concerns, worries or thoughts about the school. In the near future I will be inviting parents in for an informal coffee morning. This will be an opportunity to meet other parents, chat to me and Mrs Dunt over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Watch this space!
You can be assured that as Acting Executive Headteacher, I will strive to create the best education for your child/children whilst they are members of our school family. Please do come up and introduce yourselves outside school – I will attempt to be at the gate before and after school on the days I am in school. I look forward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your continued support.
