Liturgical calendar

At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, our liturgical celebrations follow the Church’s liturgical calendar, guiding us through the seasons of faith with prayer, reflection, and joy.

In addition to our regular Liturgies and Masses, we also mark key moments throughout the year such as Holy Days of Obligation, class-led worship, and special feast days. These celebrations help our whole school community grow together in faith and understanding.

Autumn Term

• Welcome Back Mass – We begin the school year with a joyful Mass to gather in hope and unity.

• Year of Hope Virtual Retreat – A reflective experience to launch our Jubilee journey.

• Month of Mary (October) – Children are invited to pray the Rosary in our Chapel during lunchtime.

• Remembrance Service – A solemn liturgy to honour those who have served and died in past and present conflicts.

• Jubilee Celebration Day (November) – Marked with a special Mass to celebrate our journey as Pilgrims of Hope.

• Advent Trail – Led by our Mini Vinnie Chaplaincy Team, children reflect on the meaning of Advent through interactive stations.

• Advent Prayer Services – Held throughout the season to prepare our hearts for Christmas.

• Nativity Plays – EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2 retell the story of Jesus’ birth, sharing the joy of Christmas with families.

• Key Stage 2 Carol Service – A collaborative celebration of scripture, song, and prayer to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

Spring Term

• Lent Trail – Another reflective journey led by our Mini Vinnies, helping children prepare spiritually for Easter.

• Easter Presentation – Years 3 and 4 present the key events of Holy Week and the Resurrection through drama and prayer.

Summer Term

• Crowning of Mary (May) – A special celebration honouring Mary, with prayers and songs led by the children.

• Year 6 Leavers’ Mass – Our Year 6 pupils join others from across the Clifton Diocese to mark the end of their primary school journey with a heartfelt Mass of thanksgiving.
