House System

At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we are proud to launch our new House System, designed to strengthen our school community, encourage teamwork, and celebrate the achievements of all pupils.

We now have four Houses, each named after the Four Gospels:
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

Each pupil is allocated to a House when they join St Mary’s and will remain in that House until they leave. Staff members are also assigned to Houses, promoting a sense of shared identity and support across the whole school.

From September 2025, our House System will play a key role in school life. It will:

  • Encourage positive behaviour, effort and teamwork

  • Promote peer support and mixing across different year groups

  • Provide opportunities for friendly competition through events and House Days

  • Develop leadership through our Year 6 House Captains

  • Support and celebrate pupils through a House Points rewards system

House Points

Pupils will be able to earn House Points throughout the year for things like:

  • Excellent effort in class or homework

  • Acts of kindness and helpfulness

  • Good attendance and punctuality

  • Good manners and behaviour

  • Positive attitude and perseverance

House Points will be counted weekly and totals shared during assembly. The winning House each week may receive small rewards such as extra playtime or a special privilege.

At the end of the year, the House with the most points will win the St Mary’s House Trophy, which will be proudly displayed on our House Shield in the school hall.

We look forward to seeing pupils grow in confidence, character, and community spirit as part of their House journey at St Mary’s!
