Celebrating Excellence through our Faith and Learning
We run an after school outdoor/garden club every other Wednesday for years two to six.
The sessions consist of planning and planting the vegetable/ flower beds and learning basic gardening skills; forest skills and learning about our natural environment with a focus on the seasons, all of this with a view to achieving many of the objectives of the Eco Schools award and the International School Award.
Outdoor Club recently spent a cold and windy session examining the aspect and conditions of an area of garden near the outdoor classroom. The children used ph testing kits to measure the acidity levels of the soil, which we discovered is relatively neutral. Armed with all the information they required they investigated, using gardening books and the internet, which plants would be suitable for the area. Designing and planting the area will begin later this term.
Outdoor Club has begun and we have been extremely lucky with the weather so far this Autumn!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed all the activities they have taken part in which include making s'mores by the fire, learning about artist Antony Goldsworthy and re-creating their pictures in his style using objects from nature and planting bulbs, weeding and tidying in the garden. The children have taken part in all the different activities with great enthusiasm.
